Motion and Color

Vibrant colors and multiple textures swirl about landscapes alive with rhythm and light. From the discarded comes beauty and transformation. What was once fragments of lost stories are reborn and reimagined into something singular.

Every work begins with the raw material of forgotten things: books destined for landfills, rescued and repurposed. The process is one of listening: to color, to texture, to the residual memory held in material.

Betty Kayton in studio

Betty Kayton

Betty Kayton is a professional mixed media artist and stained glass artisan based in New Hampshire. Her practice is rooted in a deep commitment to material transformation — finding the aesthetic potential latent in what others have discarded.

Her signature body of work comprises abstract landscapes built from hand-rolled paper sourced from discarded books. Each rolled cylinder is an act of archiving and release: the text is obscured, yet its presence is encoded in the work's texture and depth.

Alongside her paper mosaic practice, Betty creates bespoke stained glass windows for private residences and corporate spaces, working closely with clients to realize site-specific visions.
